Interview Techniques:
The prospect of attending a job interview can be daunting but you can increase your confidence by making sure you are well prepared.
Make a positive impression in your job interview by:
- Smiling and shaking hands with your interviewer when you are called into the room.
- Making sure you are dressed smartly, with tidy hair and clean shoes.
- Arriving on time – if you are late for the interview, employers will worry that you’ll be late every day for the job.
- Researching the organisation – opportunities will arise during the interview for you to demonstrate your knowledge of the organisation, so make sure you’ve studied their website. If you can research some of their current activities (for example, by typing their name into Google) that’s even better.
- Preparing answers to standard interview questions like: “Where do you want to be in 5 years’ time?” and “What are your strengths and weaknesses?”
- Talking about specific achievements. Prepare some examples of things you’ve done that you’re particularly proud of, whether it’s how you solved a problem, how you solved problems; how you learned – and improved – from difficult situations.
