There is no shortage of people offering careers advice to graduates throughout the world. This advice comes with the best of intentions but most graduates are focused narrowly on getting their foot in the door within their industry. There are a few proven bits of career advice that graduates can take with them through their first year on the job.

All graduates need to keep advanced education opportunities open in their early careers. Advanced education can take the form of an online education program, an advanced degree program at a traditional university or a comprehensive training program within the workplace. Graduates just entering the work force need to think of tuition costs and fees as an investment in better wages down the road.

Graduates also need to show their interest in advancement early and often to their managers. Young professionals make the mistake of assuming that their hard work and completion of major projects will show their desire to move upward in the workplace. Every graduate should sit down with their manager as soon as they realize that they want to make their job a career and develop a path up the corporate ladder.

It is also important to build a network of colleagues and contacts throughout the workplace for support as a career progresses. Graduates make friends with their office mates but many overlook important contacts in different departments and different levels that can help them meet their career goals. The use of full staff meetings, parties and outings as networking opportunities can help a graduate build a list of references unparalleled by their peers.

In many industries, graduates need to begin publishing early and often in trade publications. Graduates who want to expand their possibilities within their particular industry should seek out every opportunity to promote their professional skills. Trade websites, blogs and conferences allow graduates to meet with experienced colleagues while showing off their acumen. The process of publishing itself shows the resilience and intelligence of a graduate before they ever get their first credit.

Graduates need to reassess their career goals on an annual basis to keep their perspective on their career path fresh. The idea that career goals are set in stone has been eliminated by the transient nature of modern employment. A graduate will change career paths and jobs several times in their lives which makes an annual reassessment of long held goals is the smart thing to do.

When you are thinking of going into something as life-changing as life coaching, questions are to be expected.

It does sound too good to be true: life coaching gets rid of distractions, refocuses your goals and generally gets your life back on track. If you’ve ever been apprehensive or skeptical about life coaching before, these 5 questions are a good place to start finding answers.

Team SMRSuccess Coaching

Does life coaching really work? Yes it does, but only if you let it work. Although life coaching will have you working with a life coach or two, the process of identifying improvement goals and then successfully implementing them is still dependent on you taking action. You have to go into the activities with an open mind to let the process work.

Does life coaching involve any religion? Unless you specifically requested life coaching sessions that focused on religion and spirituality, your life coach won’t delve into that region of your life with you. Life coaching targets more visible areas of your life, such as your career or your family. does offer

Isn’t life coaching just psychology? Although life coaches commonly share some techniques with psychology, the two fields are very distinct. Psychologists specialize in diagnosing conditions and identifying causes; a life coach focuses on helping you express your problems and identify solutions. They sound very similar but life coaching is primarily focused on defining concrete action steps for improving your life instead of worrying about the causes. Your life coach will also be more directive than a psychologist and will present specific recommendations on how you might proceed with achieving your goals.

How long will results take ? This is one of the life coaching questions whose answer varies from person to person. Your life coach will be focused on helping you make some immediate improvements to the quality of your life. Sustaining those improvements and making more complex improvements will require you to keep working on implementing changes in your life. The actual time frame for your activities and life plans depends on the complexity of your goals and your willingness to actively work towards achieving those goals. Some people make considerable progress within a month or two, while there are also individuals who stick with a program for several years. From a life coaching perspective, neither case is better than the other. Change can be a very difficult thing to do; it’s a personal journey, not a race against others. The important thing isn’t that you achieve change earlier than the other person, but that you make the improvements you wanted as effortlessly as possible.

What makes a life coach so valuable? First of all, life coaches are valuable to the change process because they have training in facilitating change. The life coaches follow a life coaching process that will bring you immediate improvements in your life while building the foundation needed to more easily implement future improvements. This is related to another life coaching question…

Why you should get life coaches in the first place? While you could just ask advice from a more successful or better-adjusted friend, a life coach who has never met you before can give you an entirely new perspective to examine your life with. And because many of the coaches were on the receiving end of life coaching in the past themselves, they make excellent guides along the road to change.

In order to achieve what you want in life, it’s important to set goals. By laying out some clear goals, you give your life direction. When you have direction, you become a happier more productive person. So it is easy to see why setting goals can be so important. We at MyCareer Focus, have a few tips about goal settings

Everyone Should Have Goals

No matter who you are you should have a list of goals. Everybody has dreams and giving those dreams defined time lines is the best way to actually get them to come true. Write a list of your goals, dreams and ambitions. You might be surprised to learn that many of your goals could become stepping stones to reaching the bigger dreams you have.

Finding time to set goals may not seem easy, but it is imperative to your success. Many people don’t realize it, but they actually avoid making a list of goals because it would mean making changes in their lives. Make a time to relax and clearly state your dreams, even if it is just to yourself.

Managing Your Dreams

Once you have written your fondest dreams down, you have made a big step in the right direction. Now you need to figure out how to turn those dreams into reality. This is where setting realistic goals is very important.

Whether your dream is making money and being a success in business, or taking a tropical vacation with your family every year, you need to figure out what kind of goals will get you to that point. By setting goals you can make a series of manageable steps that will make it easier for you to achieve the end result you want.

Making Sure You Pursue Your Goals

One of the biggest problems people face when it comes to their dreams is actually working on their goals and following the plan they make. There are many reasons why people fall away from their plans. Sometimes they just get caught up in life and allow themselves to be pushed away from those plans. Other times they may sabotage their plans for internal reasons, such as fearing success.

In order to prevent this from happening to you, start working on some personal growth when you decide to pursue your dreams. Setting goals is a great first step to becoming a happier more fulfilled person. Following this by honing your motivation is an excellent next step.

Most of all you need to make sure that you remind yourself of your goals each and every day. By focusing on your success you make it a reality, and this makes it easier for you to keep working for it.

Always Keep Moving

Keeping your goals in front of you all the time makes it easier for you to change your plans occasionally. Things change in life, so it makes sense that your goals may need to be altered as time goes on. Don’t be afraid to do this.
At least a couple times a year sit down and see if your goals still match what you want to do with your life. 1 to 5 years from now, what are your personal goals? Change them as often as you need to, but just be sure that you are always working toward something that is better than what you have now.

To make a start TODAY click on this link and start setting your goals and move towards becoming truly SUCCESSFUL! This programme is totally FREE and it helps you organize your goals, and help others organize their goals. http://www.goalsontarget.com/105/TurnCoachingintoCash.mlm

Welcome to MyCareer Focus. We’re here to give free advice and information to anyone who is looking for a job and has questions they need answering.

This site can be used completely free of charge by anyone looking for a job, whether they’re a recent university graduate or a 50-something professional who has recently been made redundant. We also cater for school leavers, the long-term unemployed, and people who want to return to work following a career break. Essentially anyone who wants a job is welcome to use the site’s Career Advice resources to learn how to write a CV and prepare for job interviews.

We have found there is a need for support at most points along the job seeker spectrum: for example, today’s graduates often have skills within their degree subject but don’t know how to distinguish themselves from other applicants in the job application process; whereas older people who have been made redundant after many years’ service usually find they need to update their skill-sets to find new work.

If you are looking for a job, you have come to the right place. While we can’t promise you a job, we can certainly provide the resources you need to kick-start your career progression.

In order to run a successful home business, you need good time management. Some people think that time management isn’t as important since you are working from home and for yourself, but this is far from the truth. In order to make sure your life stays in order and your business is being run smoothly, you actually need a firmer grip on your time.

This is because when you work for someone else, you go to work at a certain time, and you leave at a certain time. This does vary, but there are almost always specific parameters that you work within. Outside those, your time is your own.

When you work for yourself, you have to make sure that you are running your business properly, but not allowing it to bleed into every aspect of your life and take over. Anyone who owns a business will tell you that this is completely possible.

But proper time management can make this a non-issue. Time management creates structure and organisation in your life, and there are many methods that you can use in order to give yourself this organisation.

One of the most classic and ever-popular methods is having a day-planner. There are all different shapes and sizes of planners, so you shouldn’t have any trouble finding something that works for you and matches your personality. But if you don’t like the idea of carrying around a classic paper planner, there are many other more technological options.

If you have a smart phone you will be able to choose from different applications that will do the same thing a day planner does. Many people prefer this, at least while they are out and about, because then their phone is a multi-tasker and there is less for them to carry around. Add the in-phone planner to the alarms that you can set to remind you of upcoming tasks, and you have a weapon of time management on your side.

There are also planners and reminders that you can get on your computer if you spend a lot of time at your desk.

But one of the most basic and important time management strategies you can use is simply to set a schedule for yourself. For some this means starting to work at a certain time or day, and stopping at a certain hour. For others this means setting timers and only working a certain number of hours out of each day.

You will have to determine what the best method is for you. Take into consideration the type of business you are running, where you are running it from, your family’s schedule, and any other commitments you have such as weekly get-togethers or school.

Time management is important for everyone, but it takes on a whole new level when you own a business. Whether you run your business from home or have a store front, work it full time or part time, make a product or just offer a service, you need to make sure that your time is under your control.

Many people aren’t prepared for the strain that running a home business puts on them. There is a lot of responsibility involved, and it can really wear people down if they aren’t careful. In order to prevent sickness, utter fatigue, and burn out, you should take some preventative measures.

Take Days Off

Just like everybody else, you need days off. You don’t have to take Saturday and Sunday, and you don’t have to take two days off in a row. You are in complete control of what days you take off and how often you take them off. But it is strongly recommended that you make sure and take days off in order to catch up on rest and get things done that you want to do.
Pace Yourself

You need to tell yourself right from the get-go that there is only so much that you can accomplish in a day. You may need to remind yourself of this occasionally as well. A major problem that plagues home business owners is that they overstretch themselves. They think they can do more than they are capable of, and this just piles stress onto them.

Learn how much you are capable of in a day and a week, and don’t push yourself beyond that. This will just leave you tired, miserable, and prone to getting sick.

Exercise Regularly

Since you work at home, you can decide when you want to work out, and what kind of exercise you want to do, but you need to make sure you are doing something. This can be going for a daily walk, going to the gym, joining a dance class, or many other things.

Working out will help you to relax, unwind, and de-stress. It will flood your body with endorphins, which will help even more to reduce stress and it will keep you healthier. Everyone knows that when you are healthy you feel better and are more productive, so it is easier to see why exercise is important.

Eat Right

When you run a home business it can be really tempting to just grab whatever is readily available to you. But this really isn’t optimal. Take advantage of working in the same building as your kitchen and take a little extra time to create good meals for yourself. Focus on foods that will give you energy in the healthiest manner possible and that aren’t full of sugars and preservatives.

You might be amazed to see how much weight you can lose and how much energy you can gain simply by eating the right foods. This is a perk to working at home that many people allow to slip by them, so make sure you take advantage of it.

Having a home business definitely puts a lot of strain on you, both mentally and physically. If you don’t do things to counteract the effects of this strain you will likely find yourself sick, burned out, and ready to give up. But with a few simple steps you can have your life running smoothly and be enjoying every minute of working at home.

How to Stay Positive While Starting Your Home Business

Starting a home business is a very exciting challenge for anyone who wants to be their own boss. Sometimes you just have to step out on your own and have faith in your own abilities. Have confidence in yourself and this will not be as daunting as you imagined.

Educate Yourself

If you plan to take your creative skills to the next level, then do just that. However, you will need to learn everything that you can in order to perfect your craft. Take classes at your local community college, if you feel that you don’t have the skills necessary to move on to the next level. Since, you already have a job, now would be the time to spend the extra money and get training that will help you with starting a home business. In addition, to formal education, brush up on what it will take to successfully run a home business.

Create a Plan

In order to stay on track, create a plan. Presently, there are plenty of ideas roaming around in your head. Every day you have the urge to go off into different directions to get your business up and running. It’s good to have great ideas, but don’t become overwhelmed with all of your new ideas. Remain focused. Sit down and plan what needs to be done. Sure, you have one ultimate long term goal of starting a home business, but it may not seem like a daunting project if you create smaller projects for each step of the way. For example, plan what you want to accomplish for this week only. Get that done and then create a productive plan for the next week.

Include Your Family

Now is not the time to exclude your family. Inform them of your ultimate goal of starting a home business. In order for you to be successful, each member of your household must be respectful of what you are trying to accomplish. Explain to everyone what you are trying to do. Family support will do wonders for your spirit.

Don’t Overdo It

Don’t do too much and become overwhelmed. Trying to maintain two jobs at one time can become very stressful, if you allow it. Now would be the best time to learn impeccable time management skills. If you are trying to start a new home business in your spare time at home, now is not the time to bring work home from your first job. Figure out how you can manage your time better on your day job so that it does not affect what you are doing at home. Find a way for your two worlds to balance without the added stress.

Envision the Future

When you get bogged down and feel like you just can’t do it anymore, just envision your future. Think about how you are starting a home business and how important this is to you. Imagine the pride you will feel knowing that one day you will be your own boss and make your own decisions. If that does not do it, then think about how thankful you are to have the skills and motivation for starting a home business. Others will be both envious and proud of you.
